Manual vs automated directory submission
Automation sounds great until the links don't count. Most directories detect and reject bot submissions, and links from spammy auto-listings rarely get indexed. Manual submission is slower but it actually sticks.
| Automated toolsBots blast every directory | Manual (BacklinkBot)A human submits each one | |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance rate | Low — often flagged as spam | High — follows each directory's rules |
| Indexing | Many links never indexed | Indexed, relevant placements |
| Listing quality | Identical generic blurb | Right category + real description |
| Risk | De-indexing / penalties | Safe, white-hat submissions |
| Link value | Often zero | Real dofollow link value |
| Report | Counts, not proof | Live proof URLs per listing |
The verdict
Volume isn't the goal — accepted, indexed links are. Manual submission is the only approach that reliably passes link value, which is why we do every submission by hand.
