What this actually is
Backlink automation software promises to submit your site to hundreds or thousands of directories, or blast link outreach, with minimal human input — typically for $20–$100+ per month. The appeal is volume without labor. The problems are twofold. First, quality: every directory has its own form, rules, and review process, so automated form-filling produces a large share of rejected or mangled, incomplete listings. Second, risk: Google's spam policies explicitly list "using automated programs or services to create links to your site" as link spam, which can hurt rankings rather than help them. To be fair, automation has a real niche: huge-scale, low-stakes work, like an agency pushing hundreds of throwaway local listings where a high rejection rate is an acceptable cost of speed. For a SaaS product whose domain reputation actually matters, hand-done submissions with verifiable proof are the better trade.
